CHURCH'S FATHERS
Born in Nisibis, south of Turkey, to Christian parents . He received his education from Mar Jacob, the Metropolitan of Nisibis. He embraced the monastic life and chose to remain a deacon until his death in Edessa. he established a theological college in Nisibis, in which he excelled in teaching the Holy Scriptures and dogmatic theology using sung Syriac poetry. He is called “The Harp of the Holy Spirit”, and was declared a Doctor of the Universal Church in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. of his saying “Let this day be the day of your repentance, lest death come and take you this very night.”
وُلد في نصيبين (جنوب تركيا الحالية)، وكان والداه مسيحيين. تتلمذ على يد مار يعقوب أسقف نصيبين، اعتنق الحياة الرهبانية واختار البقاء في درجة الشماسية حتى وفاته في الرها. أسّس مدرسة لاهوتية في نصيبين وبرع في شرح الكتاب المقدس وعقائد الإيمان بنظم القصائد الشعرية السّريانية المرتلة. لقب بكنارة الروح القدس، وأعلنه البابا بندكتس الخامس عشر ملفان الكنيسة الجامعة سنة 1920؛ من أقواله: "اجعل اليوم يوم توبتك، لئلا يأتيك الموت في هذه الليلة".

St. Ignatius of Antioch
مار اغناطيوس الأنطاكي
Known as “The Bearer of Light”. He is also known as the Antiochian because he was the third Patriarch of Antioch. After the Apostle Peter, he is considered one the Fathers of the Church, and every Syriac Patriarch who has inherited the patriarchal seat of Antioch bears his name. He was born in Syria and torn apart by wild beasts at Rome. The most famous of his sayings are: “I am the wheat of God, and may I be ground by the teeth of the wild beasts, that I may be found the pure bread of Christ.” Among his lesser-known sayings is the following admonition: “Do not attempt alone that which you can do together.”
لُقَب بالنوراني لتعاليمه المنورة، وبالأنطاكي لكونه ثالث أسقف لأنطاكية بعد الرسول بطرس، ويصنف كأحد آباء الكنيسة الرسوليين، وباسمهِ يتلقب البطاركة السّريان بوصفهم خلفاء له على الكرسي الإنطاكي. ولد في سوريا واستشهد في روما بأنياب الأسود. مقولته الشهيرة: "أنا حنطة الله أطحن تحت أنياب الأسود لأصبح خبزًا نقيًا للمسيح"، و"لا تعملوا منفردين ما تستطيعون فعلهُ سوية".

Jacob of Serugh
مار يعقوب السروجي
Born near Serugh, south of modern-day Turkey, near the eastern bank of the Euphrates. He was taught in the in the Edessa School and, at twelve years of age, began his studies to be a poet. He spent his life as a teacher and preacher in Butnan. He was captured by the Sasanians when they invaded Amida in the year 503. Following the invasion, his letters were a source of courage and patience for those who had fled to the west of the Euphrates. He was raised to the episcopal office in the year 519. He authored many exegetical works on the Holy Scriptures, as well as several homilies and prayers. Of particular note in this regard are his Homilies on the Six Days of Creation, which became famous even in his own day. His feast day is on the 28th of November.
وُلد قرب سروج (جنوب تركيا الحالية) على الضفّة الشرقية من الفرات. تعلّم في مدرسة الرها ونظم الشعر وهو في الثانية عشرة. قضى حياته معلماً وواعظاً في منطقة بطنان. أسره الساسانيون عندما اجتاحوا منطقة آمد سنة 503، فكانت رسائله تبعث روح الشجاعة والصبر في مواطنيه الذين نزحوا الى غرب الفرات. سيّم اسقفاً لسروج عام 519. وضع الكثير من الشروحات الروحية للكتاب المقدس بعهديه، ومواعظ وصلوات. أشهر كتبه "الأيام الستة" في الخلقة. عيده في 28 تشرين الثاني.

Isaac of Nineveh
مار اسحق السرياني
known as Isaac the Ninevite or Isaac the Qatari, is considered one of the greatest spiritual writers of the old Christian East. He was born in “the house of Qatar” (modern-day Qatar). He entered the monastic province and lived a life of the prayer, asceticism and union with God. He was ordained as a Metropolitan for the Eparchy of Nineveh. He left the Eparchy and withdrew to the monastery of Raban Shabor in modern-day Iraq, where he died and was buried. He said "pursue knowledge rather than gold, possess peace and not kingship"
إسحق النينوي وإسحق القطري، أحد أكبر المعلمين الروحيين في الشرق المسيحي القديم. ولد في منطقة "بيث قطرايي" (قطر الحالية). انخرط في السلك الرهباني، فعاش حياة الصلاة الزهد والتوحد. انتدب ليكون اسقفاً لنينوى، ولكنه سرعان ما اعتزل وعاد ليستقر في دير ربان شابور في ما بين النهرين حيث توفي ودفن؛ من مقولاته: "إلتمسْ فهمًا لا ذهبًا، واقتنِ سلامًا لا مُلكًا"، وأيضا: "لا تطلب الحب من قريبك، فقد تتألم من أنه لا يبادلك إياه، بل بالأحرى توجّه أنت بالحب إليه، فتحصل عليه منه".
